Feature 1

Once again there was an excellent turn out from all ages and genders in Matterdale for what has become an important social, but highly competitive annual event.  Thanks go to members of the Penrith and North Lakes Croquet Club who  provided advise to those from Matterdale as to the rules of the game which were largely followed not least as some who had bent the rules last year were away from the Valley!

On a beautiful evening at Lanwathby everyone entered into the spirit of the tournament and with varying degrees of skills fought hard to win as many hoops as possible so as to gain a place in the final. In the event the final became a family affair with Emma Bray and her daughter beating her husband and David Harrison, more than ably supported by his grandson, to claim the Woodisse Cup.

Brian Clark who organised the event said:-

" A great evening was had by all not least due to the support of members of the Penrith Croquet Club. Indeed several people from Matterdale have now approached the Club with the view to taking up croquet seriously. What was so pleasant was to see  newcomers to  the Valley mixing with the more established residents and getting to know each other. I am already under pressure to fix the date for the 2019 tournament so it looks as though people really enjoyed it"!
